I've got everything for this summer adventure of ours.
Today I received a phone call from England asking me if both of the hotel reservations I made were right (16-17 June - 18-22 June).
Funny situation, because at first I couldn't just understand what they (well, she) were (was) telling me as I could only hear some sort of gibberish...

It's been a nice day, today.

There's talk of a government shutdown since our lawmakers can't agree on a budget, which could mean I won't get my passport on time. Not that I have a snowball's chance in hell of going to the show, but if I had the passport in hand, it would seem more plausible.

    My passport arrived today.

Still hoping Mr. Thing will soften, but he probably won't.

Should all of us get passports, considering our government is about to shut down but at the last minute just like we boringly anticipated they came to an agreement?
What if we have to leave our country because it's nonoperational? What if we are forced to go to England! My eyes are wide-open with shock! Look at them!!! Look at theeeeemmmmmm! 00 REAAALLLLLY LOOOK AT THEEEEMMMMMMMMmmmmm. I wish I was drunk, that is what I wish.

This happened all the time in past decades. Things always just carry on. They always will.

It's a lot better than here in Canada and in Parliamentary so-called "democracies" where the political parties play their games, bringing in confidence measures whenever they feel like it, resulting in these $300+ million elections. At least in the States, the citizens know when their votes are going to be held.

Yeah, I read that they'd only shut down "non-essential" services, like health care to veterans; stuff like that. The Fearmongers' Shop (aka the Department of Homeland Security) would still be open for business.

And I'm sure the English don't want us. We seceded, we burned our bridges; it was 245 years ago, but they haven't forgotten or forgiven us.

Interesting. From just today, check this out for alternate history where the South won the Civil War instead of the Yankees.

When I was a kid, my dad took us on theme vacations. On year, it was the Civil War Battle Sites vacation. They had different versions of everything! This is why history is such a crock. Everybody has a different opinion; you get different stories from the winners and losers. Some is truth, some is opinion, some is propaganda; all of it colored by the particular historian's world view. Even if you were there when it happened, others who were also there when it happened will have a different account of the event. And time can alter memory.

Not to say that the study of history is pointless, but you have to take into account that nobody's testimony is objective.

True. Who,though is dominant and calling the shots? A small group watching on sideline is just expressing its own perspective.

This rewritting, Cass? This is nonsense. There were no nuclear weopons in 1864. I get so tired of the false representations of the civil war. It was about cotton. The south had more than the north, but the north had it's share. They just did not want to admit it because they had more wool. Now, who is to say what is better or worse; wool or cotton. They both serve their own purpose but wool is hot and the south is hot so why should the south want wool? If Jefferson Davis had his way the CSA would have teamed with Mexico and wool would have been obsolete as Mexico is hot, too, except in the Mexican mountains where they had no need of the North's wool as they grew their own.
Besides this whole proposition is moot and rediculous as everyone knows that the CSA won the war. Being good sports they have allowed the North to claim credit. Slavery of human beings is disgusting anywhere you look, so that at least was over (on the surface). Hurray for, Abe; but, he messed up by not giving civil rights to all including women. Dang big assed men!

History isn't always written by the winners. The losers' stories are getting much more press these days than they used to.
